Victory! Wolfowitz resigns

digg:".$title."  reddit:Victory! Wolfowitz resigns

We did it! Yesterday, Paul Wolfowitz resigned. Two years ago, George W Bush was able to install Paul Wolfowitz as World Bank President despite the international outcry. But yesterday, Bush simply could not overpower world opinion. He could no longer ignore you - the many thousands who supported our campaign, and the many millions who felt the same around the world.

Everyone's excited about our success in getting Bush's buddy Paul Wolfowitz out of the World Bank for good. In just an hour this morning after we told you, we had dozens of e-mails congratulating Avaaz on the big win. This victory belongs to all of us, so here are some of your messages for us all to share:

"Congatulations to all 52,000 odd!" (India)

"From all of us who have supported in my network from South Africa, I would like to say a very big WELL DONE and please keep it up! We will continue to support you. I have sent out your news [out] this morning, and we all rejoice at this win!" (South Africa)

"Ladies and gentlemen... We've got 'm...!...Congratulations! Keep up the very good work." (Netherlands)

"Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your campaign against injustice." (Canada)

"Well done!! That is a great Result...so glad to see that particular Neocon get his just desserts!!" (UK)

"Yes, victory! Step by step! One by one they must go down!" (Germany)

"Keep up the good work!!!!!!! If ONLY more people will wake up to the power that internet has put into our hands!!" (Malta)

"That's wonderful l news , Congratulation and wish continued success in all your endeavors." (France)

Congratulations to every supporter of this campaign! Is it really over? What about the "golden parachutes" of Wolfie...and his mistress - can these deals still be undone? Those dollars can benefit a lot more poor, real-needy beneficiaries, than those 2 could use it [unless they cry about having to pay their high powered attorneys - who are essentially working against justice, and do not deserve to be compensated for their [non] efforts. Think about these, guys!

Dear Avaaz Team,

Well done.

How about a campaign that addresses the fundamentals of how we are trained to think, plan, organise, govern and act?

The challenges we face in our economies and societies in our divided unsustainable world are perhaps greater than at any other time. These challenges have arisen because of how we have been trained to think, plan and act as individuals and how we have applied this training to the way we organise and govern ourselves. We have thought, planned, organised, governed and acted as though our world is comprised of parts that can be separately exploited by humans and managed by us from one stable state to another. We have forgotten we are just one species in a complex natural world. We have tended to act without a sense of wholeness - without integrity. Meeting these challenges will require new approaches to how we are trained to think, plan and act as individuals and how we are trained to organise and govern. These new approaches will need to be based on our current scientific understanding of our world and the human mind.

Please keep up the good work. After decades working in this field it is wonderful to be involved with your technology-enabled approach.

Best wishes,

Graham

Hi, everyone,

I have recently become part of the Avaaz network, having signed and forwarded a few petitions now, and I would hope that all those in my network are now keeping abreast of issues themselves... (I dont want to keep forwarding e-mail to them,) I have to admit I have had my doubts about how much impact e-petition campaigns could have with our global leaders, how much influence did the avaaz campaign have on wolfowitz' leaving do you think?

Nevertheless I will continue to sign petitions and follow up on this site, as its great to have an outlet for pent up frustration and feelings of powerlessness in the face of the self interest of our leaders world wide.

I have allways thought that there is little excuse for not letting the public in on the decision making process given todays technology and I believe Avaaz is one of the precursors of this democratisation of the world via techonology, the internet could be the new, global, democratic town square it would seem.

Any thoughts?

Hooray! Let's not stop the momentum of Avaaz's power. The next suggested campaign is instigating a new impartial investigation into the Sept. 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack. True change could be affected if all the wonderful evidence contradicting the official 911 story could be brought to the public's attention. Let's go for it!

The most important thing right now is http://www.avaaz.org/en/iraq_oil_law/?cl=9836809
to stop the takeover of Iraq'a oil... and this is "why" Congress (led by aipac-pelosi!) refuses to Impeach --- and "why" Congress has gone along with Bush's continuing war... to 'stall' while the Corporations who finance BOTH the Repubs AND the Dems get their hands on these VERY LONG TERM Oil Contracts!! Don't keep on being so gullible, America! THIS IS WHAT the bloodshed is all about. This oil AND the control of the entire M.E. by the PNAC's Super-Military-Power for World Domination.

WE HAVE TO STOP THIS OIL TAKEOVER!!

Soooo glad Wolfowitz is down, NOW let's move on to Gonzalez!! (and HURRY, we have a looong way to go)
http://impeachgonzales.org/ video & petition

and...

Move-On.org's Eli Pariser promised MoveOn's membership SUPPORT to aipac-Pelosi! When many of us unsubbed they did a "poll" (of HANDPICKED members!) SIGN THIS to tell them WE WANT IMPEACHMENT! http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/moveontoimpeachment/ THEN write them and tell them do NOT support aipac-PELOSI's support of Bush's war!!

ALL we can do is try to educate our fellow Americans. It is shameful and SO SAD that we, as individuals, know SO LITTLE about every other country in the world. What pathetic, narcissistic, arrogant people we are TRAINED to be.

What a wonderful world this could be if we were ALL familiar with each other.

Thank you for taking this on. In step with your efforts to unite the world and to de-emphasize our differences, please consider having a look at this messageboard and making a contribution. The intention is to create a community of people committed to living from what all of us have in common as human beings.

I believe in a Republic, where the people set up guidelines and then elect representatives to hold those guidelines in place. And at the utmost those guidelines must be adhered to. And if someone that we have elected attempts to ratify or mislead the people whom elected said person to represent them, then the people should take away said person's representing privileges and hold a new election. HOW ever! If said person, and those who support said person (when I say support I mean "support" just as much as Jim Henson "supports" Kermit or any of the Muppets to move and speak as they do) use they're powers of influence to manipulate many levels of a governing machine be it media, military and/or money (Let's call it "The Three 'M's") In order to strike fear and compliance into the people into agreeing to the ratification of those specific guidelines which were put into place to protect and uphold that republic, then... Well, then... We most likely have a very confused people. A people who; though at once, may have been united in a common belief, are now split. Split so much in fact, that the very thing which initially separated their form of an ideal government from the many other forms of government whose greed and lust for power and world domination rotted them from the inside out, that thing has been perverted in the name of protection and in the name of God only to serve as a Whore to those who were only meant to represent that Republic.

In this Republic I believe in, where the people run the government and not the other way around. If something similar to this perversion I speak of, was to happen... and it's people were so wrapped in their blankets of deception and comfort that decades go by as a small percentage of "puppet masters" found a way to continue this corrupt leadership which had so badly stripped them of anything closely resembling their initial ideals... I could only hope that a generation would come a long, which is willing to stand up for those principles which that republic was founded on, no matter what the cost. I would rather see this country destroy itself in a civil war then live and die a slave to false freedom.

This is a pivotal time in our nation. Especially, now that the obliviousness of such perversion has become SO apparent that our Nation's leader can sign a bill which not only declares an indefinite state of Martial Law, but suspends habeas corpus and allows any such declared person(s) including citizens of the nation to be held with out charges for any amount of time with no legal representation or due process. This is the beginning of the end.

So who will be next?

Here are some suggestions:

What are yours?

One thing I don't understand, is why the US gets to appoint the head of the world bank and why the head is always an American. I know it's historic and part of UN rules, but surely sure an important post shouldn't be decided by one country? The IMF head always being European, etc etc muddies the waters still further. Hardly the transparent governance that we want!

Omembe Tumbelya:

You say that the World Bank should be giving money to the poor nations of the world - well that is exactly what the World Bank had been doing under Mr. Wolfowitzs' leadership.

The amount of aid, and debt cancellation he has given to my nation (Zaire) and many others in Africa is unprecedented. The World Bank, and Mr. Wolfowitz have been hugely instrumental in systematically ending financial siphoning of aid money by corrupt goverment officals in Uganda, Chad, and even Darfur.

To you in the west, you use your populist rhetoric and discuss how Dr. Wolfowtizs' resignation was a cause for celebration, but for many of us in Africa, where the money is most important we are not celebrating... we are mourning.
