THE OLYMPIC HANDSHAKE - JOIN IN NOW!

The Beijing Olympics should be a moment to bring citizens around the world together. But the Chinese government still hasn't opened meaningful dialogue on Tibet, or made progress on Burma and Darfur -- and global activists' messages are too often lost in a firestorm of accusations about being anti-Chinese.

We've decided to take the moment back with a powerful, unambiguous message of peace, friendship and dialogue -- the Olympic Handshake. The handshake began with the Dalai Lama, passing through the streets of London, now it's gone online where all of us can join in -- help the handshake travel toward Beijing, where our message will be delivered through a big Olympic media campaign before the closing ceremonies. Join the handshake, and see yourself and others as it goes around the globe!

Climate 2020: Real Talks, Real Targets!

The world needs bold leadership to confront the climate crisis. It is the responsibility of rich countries to help bring developing countries on board by setting concrete, short-term emission targets by 2020.

Avaaz has delivered this campaign in a big satirical advertisement in the Financial Times to convey a simple message to the G8: The world can't wait another decade for leaders to grow up and start confronting this crisis. The ad has been delivered to the hotel room of every G8 delegate, (click here to see the ad) so that no leader can ignore the political cost of shirking responsibility. So where to start? The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the key symbol of the rift between Islam & the West. It's time to step up and take the initiative.

World Leaders: stop the food crisis

We've plunged into a world food crisis-- soaring crop prices sowing inflation and squeezing households round the world, 100 million more facing starvation and food riots flaring from Egypt to Bangladesh. In Sierra Leone alone rice prices have doubled, leaving 90% of the country unable to provide food for their family--so we're joining with their foreign minister Zainab Bangura to press world leaders to act.

Both rapid emergency action and fundamental reform are needed to end this crisis. Avaaz has delivered this campaign to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon (right) at an emergency food summit in Rome.

We'll continue delivering this campaign in the coming weeks and months to a string of key political meetings and summits--add your name to the petition below and spread the word:
