Stand with Sano and the people of the Philippines

To all delegates at the Warsaw conference:

As global citizens shocked by the devastation of super storm Haiyan, we urge you to listen to the appeals of the Philippine government and ensure Warsaw delivers meaningful progress for saving our planet. All nations must do much more to cut the pollution that is driving these storms, and wealthier nations should honor their commitments of financing to more vulnerable ones to effectively manage the risk climate change presents to the poorest communities. The cost of inaction is simply too great -- we urge you to make good your commitments at this conference.

Stand with Sano and the people of the Philippines

Last Friday, the strongest storm on record tore through the Philippines, ripping children from their parent’s arms, flattening buildings and killing thousands. Yesterday, on the other side of the globe, one remarkable man stood up and told world leaders how to help. But to succeed, he needs our support.

Yeb Sano, the filipino delegate to the global climate conference in Poland, pleaded through tears for the world to give to an already agreed global fund to help the most vulnerable countries mitigate against disaster. He then declared a hunger strike until a deal was done, sending shockwaves across the conference. Sano is a lone inspirational voice, but if we all respond to his call now, we will truly honour the victims of this tragedy.

Haiyan is just the beginning -- unless we act now. Daunting scientific evidence shows these super storms will be more frequent and forceful. But our leaders are still subsidising gazillionaire polluters while reneging on funds to the poorest nations already battered by climate change. Let’s get a million voices to supercharge Sano’s stirring call to action before the conference ends in days. Sign now and stand with Sano and the people of the Philippines in their worst time of need.
