The fight for Canadian democracy
To all Conservative Senators:
As citizens concerned about our democracy, we call on you to amend all that’s wrong with the “Fair Elections Act.” The bill is an outrageous effort by the Harper government to fix the next election by disenfranchising countless Canadians. Your initial recommended changes of April 10, 2014 are a good start. But when the bill comes to the Senate we ask that you not only ensure all those recommendations are integrated, but that you also amend the bill’s remaining terrible provisions, including the ban on vouching and voter information cards. You have proven your willingness to stand on principle before, and your actions now can help protect the fundamental rights of Canadians.

The Conservatives and Minister Pierre Poilievre are ramming the bill through the House of Commons in the face of deafening opposition from everyone from the Chief of Elections Canada to Rick Mercer. That’s because it suppresses the votes of citizens, removes protections against electoral fraud and basically threatens the fabric of Canadian democracy.
But guess who has the power to stop it? The Conservative Senators. They’ve acted on principle by stopping a Conservative bill before, and after the Senate scandal, they know this could restore their reputation almost overnight. Let’s send 100,000 messages to every Senator and launch an Ottawa media blitz. Sign now.
