China: Release Nobel Peace Prize Winner
|
Chinese pro-democracy activist Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this month. In response, Chinese authorities have called the prize an obscenity, kept him in prison, placed his wife under house-arrest, and detained additional activists. But the government is split over whether to release him, liberalize the media and usher in other democratic reforms. Moderates within the Communist Party that opposed the 2009 conviction of Liu Xiaobo could be emboldened by the Nobel Committee’s announcement. Our global call for the release of Liu Xiaobo will empower the Chinese democracy movement. Click below and forward this message to your family and friends – when we reach 250,000 signers, we will take out unmissable ads in the French papers to coincide with Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to Paris:
Petition to the Chinese authorities:
We urge you to release Nobel Prize Winner Liu Xiaobo and other political reformers, ensure the liberty of his wife, Liu Xia, and allow freedom of expression in China, for the media and for all citizens. Sign the petition
