Don’t kill the millionaire tax

In the next 24 hours, we could lose the millionaire tax the 99% fought for and won. As we speak, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is about to give up on the Democratic plan that would force the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share in taxes. Unless we act now, the first major victory of the Occupy movement may get thrown overboard.

Sen. Reid is meeting today with Republican leaders to hash out a new tax deal and is preparing to abandon a plan to impose a 1.9% surtax on millionaires and billionaires. This tax was a major victory of the Occupy movement and of our collective outrage at a system in which Warren Buffett's secretary pays taxes at a higher rate than Warren Buffett. It’s a typical backroom deal in Congress -- but if we shower Reid’s office with messages in the next few hours, we can stop Congress from ignoring the overwhelming majority of Americans who want tax fairness.
