The police brought guns and dogs
To New Brunswick Premier David Alward, Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, and Environment Minister Danny Soucy:
As citizens alarmed by the lack of consultation with the Mi’kmaq First Nation before the granting of fracking exploration rights to SWN, and by the police’s excessive use of force to disperse protesters, we urge you to immediately begin consultations with the Mi’kmaq to arrive at a mutually acceptable, peaceful resolution to this crisis, before their traditional land is allowed to be fracked.

This fracking would pollute the Mi’kmaq land and could poison the water children drink. After their pleas for consultation were ignored for three years, the Mi’kmaq took action, blocking the company’s access to the drill site. Now the government is arresting protesters and trampling on First Nations rights – all to let this company frack. But public outrage has forced the Premier to meet with First Nations leaders, and with enough pressure we can get a fair agreement and stop the fracking.
Let’s make sure Premier Alward knows it’s his job to put First Nations health and rights ahead of deep-pocket drillers. Once 50,000 join we’ll deliver our voices directly to the Premier -- sign now and share with everyone:
