Talking points for India climate calls -- Call now:
- Without a strong Copenhagen treaty, our rivers will flood, our coastline will disappear, and our farmland will dry up as the Himalayan glaciers disappear. India must lead at Copenhagen if our people are to survive.
- The science demands that we limit global temperature rise to as far below 2 degrees as possible if we are to prevent a climate catastrophe. Rich nations must accept their historic responsibility and deliver stronger reduction targets and an ambitious financial package. But India should not block a 2 degrees target at Copenhagen. Instead it should be the driving force.
- Again, to avoid runaway climate change, we need to peak global emission in the next 5-7 years before declining steadily. For the sake of India's poor and vulnerable, India should be championing, not opposing, a peak year -- and pushing developed countries to do what it takes to get there.
