The world's worst punishment for rape?
It’s so graphic we almost didn't tell this story. Liz* was walking home from her grandfather’s funeral when she was stopped by six men, some of whom she knew. Then it turned into anyone’s worst nightmare: they took turns raping her, then threw her unconscious body down a 6-meter toilet pit. What happened next is beyond outrageous: the police “punished” the rapists by asking them to mow the station’s lawn, then set them free.

Nobody has been brought to justice -- not the police, not the perpetrators. Today, we change that. Politicians and police chiefs are promising “heads will roll”, but women's groups in Kenya say they can’t be counted on. We need to put them under a global spotlight to stop them wriggling out of delivering justice to Liz. If we can do that, this horrific story could even mark the turning-point in Kenya’s rape epidemic.

Stand with Liz now before her story, and hope for justice, disappears. Click below to sign this urgent petition demanding Kenya’s top police official arrest the rapists and bring the offending officers to account. When we get to 500,000 signers we’ll set off media-grabbing lawn-mowing protests at police stations across Kenya to hold his feet to the fire.
