KPK vs Police

To President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono:

As citizens concerned about the police's interference in the ongoing investigations by the KPK relating to the driving simulator graft case we call on you to publicly support the KPK in its efforts. The law gives the KPK a clear mandate to handle this investigation -- your lack of endorsement will help efforts to weaken the institution we trust to fight corruption in Indonesia. We count on you to honour your election promise to tackle corruption.

KPK vs Police
Senior police officers are suspects in a driving simulator corruption case that cost the public billions of Rupiah -- but the police are sabotaging the KPK’s vital investigation while the President looks on. A massive outcry is needed to ensure the KPK can do their job without interference and intimidation.

The police overseeing this case is like the fox guarding the henhouse -- it's a blatant conflict of interest and another attempt to weaken the KPK's efforts to bring elite officials to account. And even though he campaigned on an anti-corruption platform, President SBY is dragging his feet on the matter.

The KPK is one of the few public institutions Indonesians trust, and has a successful track record of tackling corruption. It also has the legal right to pursue these investigations unhindered. But willfully disregarding this clear mandate, the police may even have resorted to wiretapping the KPK to derail its efforts. Let's stand up against this attack on democracy and integrity -- an urgent call to SBY by thousands of citizens can force him to bring the police to account and support the KPK's investigation.
