We’re on the brink of a climate catastrophe, and redirecting taxpayer support from fossil fuels into clean energy would be the game-changer our planet desperately needs. 1 trillion dollars! We’re in the middle of a global economic meltdown, yet this is how much our governments are handing out to dirty energy, the richest industry known to earth. But now a group of visionary countries, led by New Zealand, Mexico, and Switzerland, are drawing a line in the sand against this madness.

World leaders could make history by agreeing to cut the 1 trillion dollars they hand out in fossil fuel subsidies every year when they gather at a crucial environmental conference in Rio this June. Climate champion countries say it’s a game changer for the planet, but they must first fend off a slew of lobbyists and governments captured by big oil, coal and gas. What they need is massive public support -- it’s what a people-powered movement as big and determined as ours was born to do.

This week, countries are meeting in New York to negotiate the the final agenda for Rio -- this meeting is our make-or-break moment in the struggle to avert climate catastrophe. Let’s give our champions the political teeth they need -- sign the urgent petition and support their call to stop breastfeeding polluters with $1 trillion of our money. When we reach 500,000 signers, we’ll deliver our call in an amazing stunt in front of the UN headquarters where the meetings are being held.
