Obama: Lift the Cuban Embargo

During the Summit of the Americas, Avaaz sailed into the harbour at Port of Spain, Trinidad and delivered a message to President Obama to lift the Cuban embargo. The call came from nearly 50,000 Avaaz members from the Americas.

Despite tight security and restrictions on public protest, Avaaz staff and members from Trinidad sailed by the site where the regional Presidents were meeting and sent the 'End the Cuba Embargo' message on a banner hoisted up the mast.

At the Americas Summit President Obama announced a shift in US policy on Cuba - now is the time to go one step further and lift the embargo. Avaaz will continue to campaign for constructive engagement and for the US to talk to the Cuban government and end the almost 50 year failed policy.

We urge the United States government to move from isolation to constructive engagement with Cuba--initiating dialogue and lifting the embargo.
