Recognize Palestine -- New Path to Peace

To the leaders of all UN member states:

We urge you to endorse the legitimate bid for recognition of the state of Palestine and the reaffirmation of the rights of the Palestinian people. It is time to turn the tide on decades of failed peace talks, end the occupation and move towards peace based on two states.

Update: August 25 2011

Original message
Right now, the world has an opportunity to embrace a new proposal that could could jump-start a path to peace in the Middle East: UN recognition of the state of Palestine. Over 120 countries support this legitimate diplomatic proposal, but the US is blocking.

Only public pressure could shift the government's position. But many people across the country don't feel they understand the situation well enough to take action and are being told this is a threat to Israel. Avaaz has made a new short video that tells the real story. If enough people see it, sign the petition and forward it to everyone, we could change the government's position.

This could be our best chance for years to break the stalemate and open a new path toward peace. Let's share this video with everyone we know and build a movement to call on the US to stop blocking this non violent diplomatic proposal.
