Neil Young vs. Big Oil
To Prime Minister Harper, Natural Resources Minister Oliver, Aboriginal Affairs Minister Valcourt and Environment Minister Aglukkaq, and to Alberta Premier Redford :
As citizens concerned about the unchecked expansion of the Oil Sands, we call on you to reconsider your approval of Shell’s “Jackpine” project based on the significant environmental damage which you admit it will cause, and the fact that the project violates Canada’s treaty with the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. We ask you to pursue the economic benefits of the Oil Sands responsibly, and to live up to Canada’s commitments to the ACFN and other First Nations.

My name is Allan Adam and I’m the Chief of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN). The federal government just approved a giant Shell project on our land in Alberta, even though it admits it will likely wreak havoc -- on the land, fish and wildlife my people depend on, and infringe on our treaty rights.
Now, with Neil’s help there is a growing conversation taking place. But the government and oil bosses have come out fighting. They’re worried Canadians want to talk about the unchecked expansion of the Oil Sands, instead of just spending millions promoting them. We can encourage this conversation and shape a better future for my people and the rest of Canada.
The Prime Minister won’t budge unless he thinks he could lose support from conservative and undecided voters. Let’s show him Canadians of all political leanings want real respect for our rights and the land. Click and Avaaz will deliver all our voices directly to the government with a strong media message.
