Obama: shift fossil subsidies to climate finance

$10 billion of US taxpayer money still goes every year to subsidize fossil fuel companies -- who use the money to corrupt our politicians in Congress, and to tie the President’s hands. As he goes to the Copenhagen summit, let’s urge President Obama to redirect that money where it’ll do some good for a change -- let’s flood the White House with messages from all over the US! - It’s outrageous that we’re subsidising the fossil fuel lobby with $10 billion of taxpayer dollars every year! Please commit to a 2012 phase-out of these subsidies.
- Redirect the funds saved to finance the fight for clean tech, green jobs, and a climate-safe future.
- Bring a long-term plan to the Copenhagen summit for financing this global transition, and use this money to secure a global deal with strong commitments from China as well.
- And don’t put up with the fossil fuel lobby’s influence in Congress any more. Ride hard on our representatives, tell them you want a strong climate bill on your desk this spring.
