Attorney General George Brandis: No mandatory data retention in Australia

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull
Attorney General George Brandis has announced a mandatory data retention plan that would force Australians' metadata to be stored for at least 2 years.
That’s every phone call we make, every website we visit, logged away and stored
—accessible by government agencies like ASIO without a warrant. But there are divisions in the Liberal party room and if we act now we can stop this becoming law.
Brandis wants to introduce an interim measure as early as next month. Massive public pressure has just forced the government to back down on its attempt to loosen our discrimination laws. Let’s show them this move is hugely unpopular.
Malcolm Turnbull will be co-authoring the bill and he has previously strongly criticised such threats to privacy. Let’s call on Turnbull to oppose mandatory data retention. Sign the petition now to stop the snooping.
