Cornwall Council: Support buses in Cornwall rather than the failing airport at Newquay

Cornwall Council
Cornwall Council has recently made swingeing cuts to rural bus services in the County and seems to be proposing even more in May. There is an injustice in this because rural taxpayers are now faced with total isolation in some villages and a decimated bus service in many others on one hand and on the other hand having to see a part of their local and general taxes being used to subsidise passengers flying to/from Newquay Airport. Quite a few flights carry parties of stag-weekend celebrants into Newquay from “up country”. Hardly a cause for subsidy.
Whilst it is accepted that this airport has a strategic importance for some business people it is felt that these passengers should pay the full cost of their minority travelling needs instead of relying on subsidies from rural less well off citizens.
Whilst it is accepted that this airport has a strategic importance for some business people it is felt that these passengers should pay the full cost of their minority travelling needs instead of relying on subsidies from rural less well off citizens.
The proposal is therefore that Cornwall Council transfer the funding at present given to Newquay Airport passengers and use all of this to help provide a very necessary rural bus network in the County.
Please support this petition if you feel able and then pass it to your networks for their consideration.
Thank you.
