According to top climate scientists the world has a terminal greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution budget of 600 billion tonnes carbon dioxide (CO2) that must not be exceeded between 2010 and zero emissions in 2050 if we are to have a 75% chance of avoiding a catastrophic 2 degrees Centigrade C temperature rise. Unfortunately, Australia, Canada, the US and some other countries have already exceeded their "fair share" of this terminal budget. Fossil fuel corporations have listed commercial fossil fuel reserves equivalent to about 800 billion tonnes CO2 and total fossil fuel reserves are about 3,000 billion tonnes CO2. The word is set to exceed its terminal budget by a factor of 5 and Australia alone is set to exceed the whole world's terminal budget by a factor of 3. Greed and political short-termism have resulted in business as usual (BAU) climate change inaction, a massive threat to present and future generations and escalating intergenerational inequity and intergenerational injustice (Google "Are we doomed?", " 2011 climate change course" and "Why we must divest from fossil fuel corporations to help save the Biosphere and Humanity"). Already numerous churches, cities and colleges have decided to divest from fossil fuels for sound moral and financial reasons. We must urge everyone we can to support divestment from all fossil fuel corporations and all those threatening Humanity and the Biosphere.
