Discriminatory policies against Punjabi started with colonial policies and have continued in post-independence Pakistan. This petition asks for the Provincial Assembly of Pakistan to end the discrimination against Punjabi language and speakers through actively promoting the Punjabi language.
Among steps to promote Punjabi would include:
1. Education in Punjabi language at the primary level
2. For debate in the Provincial Assembly to be allowed in Punjabi, the native language of the Province.
3. To take steps to make Punjabi language an official language of the Province and to provide services to citizens in Punjabi.
The Provincial Assembly is encouraged to take its role seriously as a democratic voice for all Punjabis through ending discrimination against the Punjabi language and its speakers. In so doing, all citizens of the Province can benefit, whether rural or urban.
