Hon'ble Mr. Justice P. Sathasivam (Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India): Stop Rs 2,074 crore public money wasted on "Statue of Unity" by Gujrat Govt
It is a gross misuse of power and position. A majority of people believe that if Sardar Patel was alive he would have never given his consent for such colossal waste of money. Construction of this statue alone can not inspire us.
With More than 32% of Indian population is living under the poverty line and with second-largest number of malnourished children and with 2.1 million estimated Indian children dying before reaching the age of 5 every year according to UN Reports, Indians are in the need of access to clean food, water & sanitation and cheap medicine rather than a 182-metre statue which can only add burden to the already over populated country
The money being spent can be put to better use by setting up a National Level State of Art Hospital. At the present estimate approximately 25 Super Speciality Hospitals can be created with the equivalent amount (Rs 80 crore per hospital * Source - Economic Times)
Sardar Patel will then be remembered in people prayers. This money can also be utilized to set up a power generation plant that can provide 24 hrs power supply to thousands or millions of households currently forced to live without electicity.
I therefore request the you all to sign this petition urgently to Hon'ble Mr. Justice P. Sathasivam (Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India) to stop the construction of this project or direct the Gujrat Government to prove that it will be a profitable venture and generate revenue and employment. This data about expected tourist revenue and employment should be made publicly available and audited and verified by independent government and private agencies.
