Install speed cameras and a HGV ban on the A639 Rothwell, Leeds UK

The Leeds and Wakefield Road Actioon Group (LAWRAG) has been campaigning for ten years to i) encourage HGVs to use the nearby M1 and M62 (which would speed their journeys) instead of the A639 and ii) for enforcement of the 40mph speed limit along the road (this is regularly exceeded and both statistics obtained by Leeds City Council and LAWRAG confirm a large proportion of vehicles exceeding the speed limit.
The excessive speeding and use of the road by HGVs through an area of high population, lined with houses along the route is both a danger to the lives of local residents, schoolchildren (the road passes a school) and infants, and creates a substantial noise nuisance.
LAWRAG has ;petitioned the local council, police authority, and local MPs for ten years yet neither speed cameras nor a HGV ban has been put in place. LAWRAG is incredibly frustrated at the inaction and inertia of its elected representatives and sees other areas of the city have similar measures put in place.
