Investigate the disappearance of Mr. Sombath Somphone in Lao PDR immediately!

Mr Sombath Somphone, noted rights activist, has been missing since 15 December. He has “disappeared” after being detained at the police post at Thadeua Road (KM 3) in the Laotian capital Vientiane. Mr Somphone was last seen on CCTV escorted by police at 6 pm. The Lao PDR has signed the ASEAN Human Rights Charter.
In 2005, he received the prestigious international Ramon Magsaysay Award, often referred to as Asia’s Nobel Prize, for Community Leadership. He is highly respected in the field of community education and development through his work as founder and former Director of the Laos-based NGO PADETC – Participatory Development Training Centre. The 62-year-old Sombath, is internationally recognised for his work among the peasants of Laos.
