It is essential to allow renewable energy projects to go ahead in order to mitigate the major climatic and economic effects we will experience due to global warming and peak oil. The Fremantle Community Wind Farm project is a community owned renewable energy generation facility in North Fremantle which will generate income and investment for the local community, increase tourism and decrease our greenhouse gas emissions. Surveys and discussions within the community show overwhelming support for the wind farm, and at a recent Maritime Workers Union AGM, the workers voted unanimously in favour of the project. We must limit greenhouse gases and promote sustainability practices in order to prepare for the inevitable environmental, social and economic restraints faced by peak oil and climate change. We need to expedite proceedings with renewable energy projects such as the Fremantle Community Wind Farm project immediately.
