Knysna Municipality
Up till now South Africa has been free and clear of BSL, lets keep it that way.

New dog laws are on their way for Knysna and were presented for debate at the Governance and Economic Development Committee meeting which was held on Tuesday, October 7 2014.
An owner of a pit bull terrier will have to apply to the Knysna Municipality, in writing, to retain his dog. A municipal official will inspect his premises to ensure that it is safe and secure to house the animal. Owners who do not apply will have their pit bull removed.
Pit bull terriers will not be allowed to be walked, even on a leash, in built-up areas and public amenities i.e. not in residential neighbourhoods, the city, public beaches, taxi rank etc. That severely limits the owner so the natural question is where can they take the dog for a walk? Someone yelled out, “The bush!”
There is solid argument for responsible owners socialising there dogs into great companions or even police dogs but the greater fear is that the increase in pit bulls in Knysna, sometimes several being walked around, is a sign that they are being bred for fighting.
Another by-law for Knysna but will it be seriously enforced?
If you have a complaint or suggestion to make, then you must chat to Corporate Services (bellman@knysna.gov.za) and the Chairperson of Governance (raybarrell@telkomsa.net) as quickly as possible as it will all be made law next Council Meeting – email both. They may say that public discussion is over but that can be reopened as it’s yet to be approved. You can also bug your ward councillor. In addition to the pit bull issue, you should ask for the full, proposal called ‘By-Law Relating to the Keeping of Dogs’.
