Power company policies are trying to stifle the solar electricity market
– and could succeed if we don’t step in now.In the crazy system we have, the big power companies decide how much a homeowner’s rooftop solar electricity is worth – including zero -- even though they’re direct competitors.
But the NZ Electricity Authority is responsible for making sure the electricity market benefits consumers, and if enough of us call on them to hold a public consultation and set a fair price for solar electricity immediately, we can help level the playing field -- and protect consumers and the environment.Let's overwhelm them with our support for fair prices for solar -- sign now and share this petition with your family and friends!

Meridian and Contact recently slashed their compensation to power-producing homeowners, making national news. The businesses and families who spend thousands investing in their own solar electricity have no choice but to take it, right in the wallet. This kind of uncertainty stifles solar markets. We're not asking for subsidies -- just a fair and predictable pricing system so that homeowners and businesses can make informed decisions about their energy choices and to make sure rooftop solar electricity has a real shot against heavily subsidised fossil fuels.
Solar electricity puts downward pressure on prices and costs , even for consumers who are not producing solar power themselves. The only problem is that it threatens power companies' astronomical profits. Solar power is people power!
