Surgeons, Hospitals, Doctors are allowed to cover up malpractice. This is made easier due to the "Keep Doctors In Nevada Initiative" limiting the percentage an attorney can charge a client alleging malpractice. During spine surgery I developed bilateral lower extremity compartment syndrome and have permanent muscle, nerve and blood vessel damage. I told them in the recovery room that it was impending but was ignored. At this point it was preventable but I was ignored. After rhabdomyolysis, acidosis ensued and the damage was irreversible they covered it up. Records disappeared, staff was threatened, all nurses were required to take a workshop on compartment syndrome. I received a threatening letter from their letter. Due to the cover up It took over a year for other doctors to figure out something else was going on. The original surgeons blamed it on "irritated nerves from the surgery that could last up to a year" That covered the statute of limitation, so they thought. I will take meds for the rest of my life, have an implanted nerve stimulator, will require repeated surgeries, have constant pain 24 hrs per day including cramps and spasms. I work on and off enough to collect short term disability for awhile and go back to work and try to save for retirement. I lost $78,000 in one year private disability money because of my implant. Can't begin to explain the financial burden this has been. It has cost personal relationships, thousands of hours of lost enjoyment, hobbies, time spent with family and friends because I was laid up in pain or my legs were just exhausted. So many things I can no longer do that I used to and so many other activities that require pain and antispasmotics before undertaking. I can no longer sleep in a bed because I cannot have pressure on thigh muscles. I contacted close to a hundred attorney offices throughout Nevada and was told they couldn't take it because they covered it up for so long and that some of the attorneys I contacted were employed by the hospital and the orthopedic clinic. I was told that although there was a Nevada law stating "If a medical professional or facility lies, covers up malpractice that there is no statute of limitations in that case" that it is not that easy. I do have hospital records I gathered before, my medical records before and after, physician statements.
