The Panamanian government is siding with environmentally dangerous mining and hydroelectric companies over the Ngäbe-Buglé indigenous peoples, breaking laws on land rights and violently repressing dissent. President Martinelli Berrocal ordered a violent crackdown on Ngäbe-Buglé protestors for their opposition to a bill that would eliminate their right to decide on the use of natural resources in their land, leaving at least 2 deaths and dozens severely injured and imprisoned. But public outrage has caught Martinelli Berrocal off guard, and he’s agreed to a truce with the Ngäbe-Buglé to halt the protests and repression, so Congress can debate the Bill once again which is why Panama’s environment and Ngäbe-Buglé community are still in imminent danger.

Panamanian carnivals begin on Feb 18th, the perfect moment for Martinelli Berrocal’s government to try and sneak the Bill through when they think no one is watching, leaving the Ngäbe-Buglé territories unprotected from mining and hydroelectric projects. Let's get 5k signatures from across Panama and the world and deliver the petition on Feb 18th to President Martinelli Berrocal! Sign the petition now and share with everyone you know who wants justice and sustainable development in Panama!
