The Canadian company Gabriel Resources intend to create the biggest gold- and silver-mine in Europe by razing four mountains and destroying huge areas of forest and wildlife with an open-pit mine in Rosia Montanã, Transylvania.

The use of cyanide leaching means that the toxic substance cyanide is used in the extraction process. This substance is poisonous to both humans, plantlife and other animals. While most of the cyanide used is handled and detoxicied immediately this technique still poses a serious health-risk for the surrounding nature and human population, as well as their crops and cattle.

The village of Rosa Montanã is also a trisk of being moved or demolished. These people lived here long before the gold was found, and have all the right to remain. Instead they are being evicted for the mining of precious metals using poisonous substances.

The government is also paving way for this dirty praxis by drafting an exception in the legislation for them to do their work. So far this is only a draft, so we can still change this with enough power from our collected community!

There are also reported cases of threats and violence against the inhabitants of Rosia Montanã by RMGC (Gabriel Resources) simply for being against the contract of this mining operation, or because they have refused to leave their homes and chosen to stay.

This is an outrage for Romania also because the contract only pays the Romanian party for the gold and silver (Worth around 15 billion Euroes), while the total sum of rare metals in the area is estimated to be around 50 billion Euroes.

Together we can influence this decision and stop this mad practice!
