We refuse to accept the basic infrastructure shortage in the South African education system which has left 46% of schools using pit-latrines, 93% without libraries, 90% without computer centres and 95% without science labs. In response to this crisis, we demand: 1. That Minimum Norms and Standards for Basic School Infrastructure be implemented by Equal Education’s deadline of 15 June 2013. 2. That the Minimum Norms and Standards clearly and comprehensively outline an acceptable definition of what any school needs, as demanded by EE. 3. That government acts swiftly to realise these standards. We, the undersigned, pledge our support to the campaigns of SAY-I-CAN, its member councils, and Equal Education to have Minimum Norms and Standards both written into law and translated into equal education for all.
