By June 17, 2013 the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in the name of 'fire prevention', will start to clear-cut and poison 50,000 to 100,000 trees in the Berkeley and Oakland hills, some of which have been here for 100 years and which support a healthy, beautiful and thriving eco-system.
This will expose the public to thousands of gallons of toxic herbicide, destroy raptor and wildlife habitats, destabilize steep slopes, decrease air qualiity, contribute to global warming and actually increase the risk of hazardous wildfires.
The currently vibrant ecosystem will be reduced to stumps and woodchips.
