started this petition to
Emarat business leaders, Lawyers in the UAE, UAE Royalty, concerned citizens of the UAE
The UAE has come a long way in addressing human rights and employee rights over the last 3 or so years but the actions of employers like Emarat show that we are still some way to go. A low wage and standing outside in 40+ degree heat for the majority of the year is part of the job description - being humiliated and degraded by being strip searched at random or terminated for having 10 AED in a pocket should not be.

This petition is important on two levels. Firstly (and most importantly) it will mean basic human dignity and honor for Emarat petrol attendants in the UAE. Secondly it is about freedom and choice, the freedom to receive tips and the freedom and choice of a customer to reward good service.

As a citizen of the UAE for 7 years i have always appreciated the smiles, humility and helpfulness of these who fill up my petrol while i sit comfortable (and a little guilty) in my air conditioned car. If I want to tip someone I will and I certainly do not want someone to risk their job for it.
