The Forum for the Assistance and Prevention of International Child Abduction (Fasim) deals every day a growing number of cases of children who are separated from one of their parents as a result of non consensual actions by the other one. All over the world children are taken away from their country of residence by one of their parents without the knowledge or consent of the other one. Many of these children will never be able to see their other parent again. Children’s rights are flagrantly violated in this way. In order to make sure that their rights are fully respected, it is essential that all countries -not only those signatories of the 1980 Hague Abduction Convention- take more effective measures to prevent parental abduction of children. Only by changing domestic legislation will governments be able to prevent the increasing number of cases of parental abduction of children.
