We the undersigned, members of the global journalism community, including members of Internews' Earth Journalism Network and the Society of Environmental Journalists, condemn the killing of our colleague, Hang Serei Oudom, a reporter with the Cambodian local language newspaper Vorakchun Khmer Daily. Oudom, 44, who had been missing since 9 September, was found dead on 11 September in an abandoned vehicle in a cashew nut plantation in the northern Ratanakiri province, with several axe blows to the head, according to the International Press Institute (IPI). We call on the Cambodian authorities to conduct an independent investigation into his death and bring his killers to justice. We would also like to express our concern about the possible narrowing of space for environmental journalists to be able to work in freely and independently in Cambodia.
