Ireland's Minister for the Marine & Natural Resources, Simon Coveney
The groundswell of local opinion against this development amongst local coastal communities in north County Clare and South County Galway along with stakeholders in the tourism, inshore commercial fishing and tourism angling sectors throughout the country needs to be transmitted effectively and powerfully to our political decision makers, namely Minister Coveney. If this development goes ahead , it will have an immeasurable generational impact on the environmental, social and economic capital of this region. The profits of this huge project will leave the country as it is almost certain that a multinational salmon farming company will get the licence to run it. It's sole local footprint region will be one of inevitable degradation of a relatively pristine local coastal environment and significant job displacement amongst 100's of small hitherto sustainable local fishing and tourist economies and ultimately a hollowing out of vulnerable coastal communities
