Stop the trade in shark fins in Costa Rica

started this petition to
The Costa Rican government, The owners of hotels and tourist attractions in Costa Rica
Sharks are being caught at sea, de-finned while alive and left to drown.
There is a vast trade in the fins, which supply the Taiwan and Chinese markets and, while there are laws in Costa Rica which require that shark and fins are landed together in practice there is little control due to the lack of resources of the coastguard and, more importantly, the blind eye being turned to open flouting of the law.
Costa Rica lays great emphasis on its 'Green' credentials.....but the proliferation of this practice shows the reality of the situation....not 'Green' but 'Greenwashed'.
Please make the Costa Rican government - so dependent on tourism revenues - understand that Greenwashed is not enough.
Please contact the tourist industry - not the Tourist Board (ICT) - and ask them to contribute to the protection of the sharks...if only from a sense of solidarity!
I live in Costa Rica and i'd like the country to put its action where its mouth is.
