European Commission
European Commission is promoting water privatization in EU, by pressing member states to privatize their water sector.

Current economic crisis that hit eurozone, gave the opportunity for some interests to promote the false perception, according to which, the states have failed to manage specific sectors and therefore these sectors must be privatized.

Chile's example has shown that the mass privatization of waters has led to very high prices controlled by a few cartels. In Portugal, privatization of water in the area Pacos de Ferreira, has led to the increase of the price of water by 400% in a few years, rising by 6% every year. Under economic collapse, Greece has been pressured by the EU to privatize the biggest water companies, while people already suffering from rising taxes and prices in social services imposed by the Greek government and the European partners.

Water privatization has proven that leads to higher prices and lower water quality. Water is a social good which must be controlled by the state and the local communities for the benefit of all the people. Water is a key element to life and must be accessed by everyone regardless their economic ability.
