The IPCC now tell us that we must leave most fossil fuel resources in the ground to have a reasonable chance of limiting global warming. We must adjust to this paradigm shift. South Africa has wonderful sun and wind resources.
PetroSA's project involves dumping fracking fluids and wastewater into an ocean that is severely stressed by CO2 absorption to allow it to extract more gas. Much of that gas will be burnt in a power station, but wind power is much cleaner, more economic and provides much more employment - employment in a clean future, where its skills are badly needed.
