American Humane Association believes that euthanizing shelter animals by carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide is inhumane to the animal and harmful to humans. American Humane Association considers euthanasia by injection (EBI) to be the only acceptable and humane means of euthanasia for all shelter animals.

It is a national tragedy that 5 to 8 million shelter animals must be euthanized every year. Until a solution is reached, the final moments for these animals must be humane.

The animal is in a warm or hot box, usually with other animals. They don't know what's going on. The hiss of the gas is going on inside. They get dizzy, and they panic, Fights can break out, and animals' cries can be heard, it is usually lasting 40 minutes.

Many cats and dogs went in a coma and were buried, cremated alive, or put in the freezer, still alive, by mistake. Elderly and pregnant animals often require several gas chamber sessions due to reduced lung capacity.
That's a horrible way to die.

Today most private and city animal shelters euthanize animals with sodium pentobarbital, a controlled substance that is injected into one of a dog or cat's veins. Animals die in seconds, experts say, and without pain or suffering.

At this moment 19 states already banned use of gas chambers, lets work together to change federal law that would mandate all the states to ban use of gas chambers.

Change is possible! On July 19th 2012 Congressman Jim Moran, from Northern Virginia - co-chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, introduced a resolution, H. Res. 736, opposing the use of gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals.

Let's reach out to our Congresswomans and Congressmans to urge them to sign H. Res. 736.

Until we can have dogs and cats population under control by promoting spay and neuter practices or finding shelters for all shelter animals, it is a sad reality that so many of them would end their lives killed due to lack of room.

So until a solution is reached, the final moments for these animals must be humane - please sign this petition and help me fight for rights of those who can't speak for themselves.
