Yemeni Government: Protect authors Ahmad Alaramy and Ali Almuqri from Fundamentalist threats
The poet Alaramy was dismissed from his academic position at Rada’a University after introducing a novel written by Amoqri to his students for discussion. Some Islamist extremists claim the novel, entitled Hurma, portrays Jihadists’ sexual behaviour in a way they considered pornographic. As a result, they launched a hate campaign against Alaramy. They threatened to kill him, behead him, and dangle his head at the entrance of Rada’a city. Mr. Alaramy was left without protection because of Yemeni authorities’ inaction and had to flee outside of Yemen.
At the backdrop of this, novelist Almuqri, who remains in Yemen, has been subjected to a fierce hate campaign and he and his family receive death threats directly and through various means of communication and information. Almuqri has been subjected to three Takfir campaigns in previous years because of his writings.
