In Syria, more and more government officials are defecting everyday and the situation is deteriorating. Major General Abulaziz al-Shalal told reporters, “The army has deviated from its essential mission, which is to protect the country, and it has morphed into murderous, destructive gangs.” He left the regime to join the people’s revolution. Lakhdar Brahimi, the international envoy to Syria, has warned that as many as 100,000 could die in the next year if a way cannot be found quickly to end the civil war.
Please take action to safeguard Zaidoun and all of the other Prisoners of Conscience, imprisoned because they want a peaceful outcome for Syria.
