Save the Paradise Forests

To President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, and Governor Zaini Abdullah, Aceh Province:

We urge you to reject the plan to cut down the rainforest in Aceh, and engage the local community to develop a plan that prioritises sustainable development, and protects this uniquely fragile ecosystem, and the animals that live there. We also call on you to immediately extend and strengthen the logging moratorium that expires in May to protect the rainforests. Indonesia’s majestic forests are a global treasure and stopping their deforestation is a global concern.

Save the Paradise Forests
It’s the Amazon of Asia -- the last place on Earth where iconic orangutans, tigers, elephants and rhinos still roam free together. But Indonesia’s ancient forests could soon be ancient history if we don't stop the chainsaws now.

A nationwide logging moratorium has been the only roadblock preventing greedy mining and palm oil companies from slicing away at Indonesia’s majestic forests. But it expires in weeks, and a local governor wants to open an area the size of a million football fields to bulldozers and chainsaws! Local communities are urging the President to extend the ban -- and now they’ve reached out for help. A gigantic global outcry could make the difference in pushing the President over the edge!

There’s hope -- last week the Forestry Minister announced the government’s intention to act -- but we need to go big now before the moratorium ends. Sign the urgent petition and share with everyone!
