Don't sell out New Zealand's democracy

To all the governments negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement:

As concerned global citizens, we call on you to make the TPP process transparent and accountable to all, and to reject any plans that limit our governments' power to regulate in the public interest. The TPP is a threat to democracy, undermining national sovereignty, workers' rights, environmental protections and Internet freedom. We urge you to reject this corporate takeover.

Don't sell out New Zealand's democracy
TPP: The Corporate Death Star

In days the New Zealand government could sell out the people of Aotearoa and hand the reigns of our democracy over to foreign corporations -- if we don't stop them.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), which negotiators want to begin wrapping up next weekend, would be a massive gift to corporate power at the expense of Kiwis everywhere. While some 600 US corporate lobbyists have been hand-writing the deal, our MPs don't even have access to the secret texts! We do know it would would undercut a vast array of our laws: affordable medicines, Internet freedom, the right to stop fracking, GE food labeling, Smokefree NZ -- virtually any law that puts people over profits is at risk.

But there's hope -- insiders say there's intense debate within Labour on the TPPA. If we make a big enough fuss, we can force them to unite against it and get the voice in Parliament needed to push this out of the shadows in the crucial days before Trade Negotiation Minister Groser has the chance to sell us out. Sign the petition demanding out leaders stand up for our sovereignty, then send them a message directly.
