21st September

Thanks for signing up to take photos or video at a Global Wake Up Call event on September 21st! Your participation is a vital part of sounding the alarm, and making sure that the Global Wake Up Call gets heard and seen by world leaders.

If you remember one thing from this email, please remember this:

Email photos, videos (or links to bigger files) to photos@avaaz.org as quickly as possible!

  1. Take the essential group shot when the participants have converged and the flashmob is at its crescendo. Make sure everyone faces you and they all hold their phones up. Tell those that have banners or signs to hold them up at this point. You may have to shout clear instructions if it is a large group, but it is worth it to get a great image of the whole group. Here is an idea of what a photo could look like:

  2. Close Ups - If there are only a few people attending or if there are highlights of the flashmob that you want to record -- take a few close up shots. The key is to get both a phone and a face. Kids are perfect!

  3. Sound: for the purposes of the film it is most important to record (just audio, or in video):
    • the sounds of mobile phones ringing together, and any other instruments, chanting, singing, or noise -- so we can play the sound of the world's wake-up call
    • a person calling their leader - we want to be able to show that leaders all around the world have been called in all different languages.
  4. How much footage / how many stills to send? Just your best! The editing team will be filtering thousands of messages from all over the world so please only send a few (choose your 5-10 best if you can!) photos, and for footage please don't send more than 3 minutes.

  5. Send images and sound on IMMEDIATELY! Please work out before hand somewhere close to the event where you can upload and send on images within an hour. Remember the editing team is working against the clock to get all the images into the film that same day so don't spend time going through everything, there will be a team of folks filtering in New York who can decide which are the best shots.

  6. Email your photos and videos to photos@avaaz.org -- or for big files, upload them to http://www.avaaz.org/upload and email the link to photos@avaaz.org - but please no more than 250mb files and 720 format. To be able to use your images or footage it is essential that you put the city or town and country where the event was held in the email subject line. Please then describe your event in the message -- even just a few word helps!

Once you have sent your images off, your contribution to this great day is done. The film will be up on the Avaaz website within a couple of days - so look out for it!
