To EU President Barroso, and other EU leaders:

As concerned global citizens, we call on you to follow the science and set the Europe’s domestic 2030 carbon reduction target at 50%. The EU must also agree binding renewable energy and energy efficiency targets to ensure investment in new green jobs. The world will applaud and remember your leadership if you set an ambitious climate policy now to ensure a successful global agreement on climate.

We’ve only got 23 months until the meeting where world leaders decide if we cook the planet. But this week, hopes for the Paris Summit could be torched by the European Union -- it’s up to us to keep them alive.
Europe is first out of the starting gate in setting out carbon cuts for the next two decades. Traditionally a climate champion, this time round they’re in danger of caving to corporate pressure and agreeing a weak plan that will fry the planet. European President Barroso holds the key. He has only months left in office and wants a big global role at NATO or the UN -- we can show him that climate leadership is his ticket to the world stage.

Our future is in Barroso’s hands. If he gets a strong European target it will bring the US, China, and others into a deal, but a weak one will ensure Paris is dead on arrival. The race is on -- sign the petition below, once we reach 1 million signers Avaaz will deliver it to Barroso in Brussels.
