1.5 MILLION STRONG FOR TIBET
Avaaz members worldwide help raise massive outcry for change
Sometimes I feel like a drop in an ocean. Avaaz helps me remember that the ocean is just a collection of drops. - Dave H, UK
On March 14, protests and riots swept Tibet--and then the Chinese government cracked down, leaving 150 dead. The violence sparked a global wave of action, with demonstrations in dozens of cities... and an unprecedented 1.5 million person petition to Chinese President Hu Jintao urging restraint, respect for human rights, and dialogue with the Dalai Lama.
Now, China is signalling a willingness to talk to the Dalai Lama--but at the same time pressuring leaders around the world to support its ongoing campaign of repression in Tibet. Use the tool below to send a personal message to your head of state, urging more pressure on China to talk to the Dalai Lama!

Global Day of Action for Tibet: 84 Cities, 37 Countries!
On Monday, March 31, thousands of people around the world marched, protested, prayed, chanted, and held solemn vigils in support of the people of Tibet. The events, organized by a network of local, national, and international Tibet groups, brought the Avaaz petition to Chinese embassies and consulates on every continent and caught the attention of the news media from Ireland and Austria to Rio and New Delhi. (Click here for a list of the cities and events.) See below for some pictures from the Global Day of Action! The petition was also delivered to Chinese diplomats in New York and London by Avaaz staff. We will continue to send it to Chinese officials around the world, as well as to look for other ways to bring the global call for justice in Tibet to the government and people of China.
