Twitter: Say no to censorship

To Twitter CEO Dick Costolo:

As global citizens concerned over the increasing threat to our Internet, we call on you to stand up for freedom of expression and say no to censorship. We call on you to rewrite your "Country Withheld Content" policy to commit to uphold Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. If a government presses you to violate human rights, we call on you to refuse to do their dirty work and pull your staff out of the country.

Twitter: Say no to censorship
Urgent -- Twitter has just announced that they will block tweets in specific countries if they offend regressive anti-speech laws -- it's time to draw a line in the sand and end Internet censorship for good.

National interests want to carve up the Internet, pass laws that threaten free expression and then get the web companies we all use most to do their dirty work for them. Amazingly, Twitter is rolling over and giving up -- agreeing to censor us to appease regimes in countries like India and China.

These companies don't exist without us -- let's use our power as subscribers to persuade net corporations to stand up to the enemies of free speech. Help raise a global web movement to get Twitter to promise to abide by the international human rights declaration's guarantee of freedom of expression -- join the call!
