ZIM HUMAN RIGHTS ALERT

Mugabe's government has stepped up a campaign of intimidation and terror as the 27 June run-off election draws near. In response, Zimbabwean groups have appealed for international pressure on specific rights abuses. Here is the latest report from Avaaz' Zimbabwean partners:
"On May 28th 14 members of Women Of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) were arrested while peacefully demonstrating to end violence in Zimbabwe. Eleven of them were finally released but, Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu, remain in custody in deplorable conditions at the Chikurubi Female Prison.

They have been denied bail because the State claims that they will organise Kenya-style violence around the election period. There is great concern at their continued detention. The State will probably keep them in custody until after the 27th June presidential run-off if not longer. Please urge the Zimbabwe government to release the WOZA leaders.
