On the other side of the world, the beautiful forests of Tasmania, Australia are under threat. Not only are they home to species found nowhere else in the world, like the Tassie Devil, they're also important to our global climate. Recent studies show that these beautiful old-growth forests store more carbon per hectare than almost any other in the world1. Yet at the moment an Australian company is felling the trees and dropping napalm on the area, starting huge fires2, to feed a controversial pulp mill that will only be built with Scandinavian help. Swedish bank, Nordea is considering funding the project, but just imagine the reactions in their boardroom if thousands of customers and potential customers at home contact them demanding they don't fund the destructive mill. Let's flood Nordea's CEO with emails today: http://www.avaaz.org/en/no_pulp_mill/98.php?CLICK_TF_TRACK It's moments like this when our international Avaaz movement is at it's best - when we can take strategic action and have an immediate effect across the world. Australians have been fighting hard against this pulp mill, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to run an international advertising campaign targeting potential financial backers. Already, fifteen of the world's leading banks, including all those in Australia, have ruled out financing this pulp mill. Nordea is one of the only banks still thinking of getting involved in this socially, environmentally and economically destructive mill. In the current economic climate, it just doesn't make sense. Let's email Nordea, and ask them not to fund the Gunns Pulp Mill in Australia! Email Nordea's CEO today Scandinavia has a proud history of environmentalism and social responsibility. Let's not allow Nordea to undermine this international reputation by destroying the beautiful forests of Australia.
