Il suo predecessore Papa Benedetto XVI ha espresso pareri positivi rispetto al circo, senza distinguere tra il circo che sfrutta animali ed il circo che si avvale della sola arte e maestria degli uomini.
Quanto affermato dall’allora Papa Benedetto XVI è vero se riferito alle attività che non prevedono lo sfruttamento degli animali, mentre non è condivisibile per gli spettacoli che vedono gli animali ridotti in catene ed obbligati a svolgere esercizi che nulla hanno a che vedere con la loro propria natura.

Nella scelta del Suo nome Lei ha fatto riferimento a San Francesco, considerato Santo protettore degli animali. Per questo Le chiedo di prendere una posizione netta e distinguere tra Arte e sfruttamento.
Le chiedo di benedire e sostenere gli artisti che animano il circo senza animali e di esortare chi utilizza animali ad abbandonare quel tipo di spettacolo a favore di uno che veda in primo piano l’arte umana e non lo sfruttamento di animali ridotti in schiavitù.

Sono convinto che la compassione verso i più deboli non sia applicabile solo all’uomo ma a tutti gli esseri che provano emozioni. Difendere gli animali è un passo necessario nel cammino che porta a difendere l’uomo.
Sono certo accoglierà questa preghiera, completando le parole del Suo predecessore.

La ringrazio citando San Basilio Magno, che scrisse questa preghiera per gli animali:
O Signore, accresci in noi la fratellanza con i nostri piccoli fratelli;
concedi che essi possano vivere non per noi, ma per se stessi e per Te;
facci capire che essi amano, come noi, la dolcezza della vita
e ti servono nel loro posto meglio di quanto facciamo noi nel nostro.”

I believe that compassion for the weak is not applicable only to man, but to all beings that are capable of emotions and have feelings. Defending animals is a necessary step on the journey that leads to defending man.

Su Santidad, su predecesor el Papa Benedetto XVI, ha hecho declaraciones a favor del circo sin
distinguir entre el circo que utiliza animales y el circo que utiliza sólo el arte y la habilidad de los
hombres. Las declaraciones hechas por el entonces Papa Benedetto XVI son ciertas si nos referimos a actividades que no impliquen la explotación animal, mientras que no es aceptable para los espectáculos que ven reducidos los animales en cadenas y obligados a realizar ejercicios que no tienen nada que ver con su propia naturaleza.

En la elección de su nombre se refirió a San Francisco, considerado el santo patrón de los animales.
 Por esta razón le pido que tome una posición clara y distinga entre Arte y explotación.
 Le pido que bendiga y apoye a los artistas que animan el circo sin animales, y que anime a
 aquellos que utilizan animales a abnadonar ese tipo de espectáculos a favor de uno que utilice el
 arte humano y no la explotación de los animales esclavizados.

Creo que la compasión por los débiles no es aplicable sólo a los hombres sino a todos los seres 
que tienen emociones. La defensa de los animales es un paso necesario en el camino que lleva a
defender al hombre. 
Estoy seguro de que dará la bienvenida a esta oración, completando las palabras de su 
predecesor.

Le doi las gracias citando a San Basilio el Grande, quien escribió esta oración para los animales:
Oh Señor, haz crecer en nosotros la comunión con nuestros hermanos pequeños;

haz que puedan vivir no para nostros, sino para sí mismos y para Tí;
