Europe: Be our Climate Champion!

To the 27 European Environment Ministers:

As concerned global citizens, we urge you to increase the Europe's 2020 carbon reduction target to 30% at this Friday's EU Council meeting. We also call on you to make abolishing all fossil fuel subsidies handed out to dirty energy producers the EU's priority for the Rio Earth Summit and instead to work with nations to direct these public funds into clean energy subsidies. The world needs bold leadership from Europe and we are counting on you to remain ambitious in your action fighting climate change.

Europe: Be our Climate Champion!
On Friday, Europe’s environment ministers will make two crucial choices on climate change that will affect our world for generations to come. In the face of huge pressure from powerful polluters, only our support now can push through the right decisions.

EU ministers could strengthen Europe's pollution cutting targets and take steps to end outrageous subsidies to fossil fuel companies. But they are under huge pressure - Canada is threatening sanctions after the EU took steps to reject its dirty tar sand oil, China and the US are furious about EU plans to curb airplane pollution, and polluting industries are lobbying against environmental protections. Progressive heroes within the EU are pushing back-- if we give them massive public support now -- we can win.

Let's urgently put the wind of global public opinion in the sails of EU environment ministers so they can be ambitious climate champions and end the scourge of fossil fuels. Sign the petition on the right now -- we’ll deliver it when we reach 500,000 signatures:
